As was announced yesterday, we have an opportunity to run the Taco Stand at this year's Washington Town & Country Fair to benefit our Youth Ministry (PLUS the positive PR it gives New Life Church - the booth is in a very prominent location). In past years the profit has been between $4-4500. Our participation will be based upon having enough volunteers. If not, we need to let the Fair Board know so they can find someone else to run the stand.CAN YOU HELP make a difference by serving in the NLC Youth Taco Stand? Please see the attached sign-up sheets. Some were able to sign up yesterday. Adults and Youth (13 years and older) are eligible to serve. PLEASE let Pastor George know ASAP which slots you can fill... your name will be added to the schedule in the Church Lobby. At yesterday's picnic some Life Groups were considering filling a slot with members of their group - Great Idea! Living the Faith! George Picnic Time It is finally here! This Sunday we are having a two prong celebration: New Life Church's first birthday (our first worship service was June 8, 2014) and celebrating membership (nearly 90 people have committed themselves to Christ & His church at New Life during the Charter Membership phase over the past five months). This is a Potluck Picnic at the Dutzow Pavilion, beginning at noon - please bring a dish to share, lawn chairs for seating, as well as an attitude of joy and celebration. There will be bounce houses for the young, as well as volleyball, football, washers, sack races and other activities for the remaining young at heart. During worship (wear RED in celebration of Pentecost Sunday - the birth of the church) we will reflect on past year, recalling the amazing things the Lord has done In and through us. We will end the service with a BALLOON LAUNCH from the parking lot near the front entrance. Don't miss the celebration! NOTES AND REMINDERS: Did You Know? This past Sunday there were 138 people in worship and the only remaining parking spaces were three handicapped spots near the front entrance. This is a great challenge that is welcomed and desired... and one of the easiest to remedy. PLEASE HELP make room for those who have difficulty walking and for guests by parking on the side streets, particularly north of 8th street on Burnside. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers. Robert L. Meyer, 78, of Washington, passed away Friday, May 22, 2015 at his home. He was born October 8, 1936 to the late John L. and the Pansy (nee Birdwell) Meyer in Washington. He was united in marriage to Marlene Door on October 3, 1967 in Illinois. A Funeral Service will be held at New Life Church in Washington at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, May 27, 2015. Interment will be in St. Peter’s United Church of Christ Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4 until 8 at Miller Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to New Life Church. He is survived by his wife, Marlene, four children, Robert R. and wife Sandra of Washington, Mona Stogsdill of St. Louis, Kim and husband Warren Smith of Washington and Cherie Meyer and husband Joseph Harmon of Kansas City. He is also survived by seven siblings, John Meyer of Abilene, Texas, Bernard Meyer of Washington, Thomas and wife Ruth Meyer of Washington, Walter and wife Kathleen Meyer of Washington, Larry and wife Carolyn Meyer of Marthasville, Richard and wife Kathryn Meyer of Washington and Mary Crawford of St. Charles also by eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Ralph Meyer and Donald Meyer and two sisters, Wanda Wilson and Barbara Tyree. Brian Harris (of Mt. Roskill, Auckland, New Zealand) told the following story:
A young boy went to the local store with his mother. The shop owner, a kindly man, passed him a large jar of suckers and invited him to help himself to a handful. Uncharacteristically, the boy held back. So the shop owner pulled out a handful for him. When outside, the boy's mother asked why he had suddenly been so shy and wouldn't take a handful of suckers when offered. The boy replied, "Because his hand is much bigger than mine!" What a view of God's grace! Just as God has given us so much... faith, family, finances, friends and the fun (joy) in life, there is so much more He wants to give us... fulfillment of purchase, assurance of His forgiveness and salvation, and the power to live a life that has an eternal impact. WHY? Because we deserve His blessings? No! Because He loves us and wants His best for us. TODAY, take a moment and turn to the One who desires to shower you with His grace that you may not only experience it but share it with others. Here's praying that your life is an "Eruption of Grace" today! NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS: The Celebration Continues!
